Things I want you to know:

1) Mark Kagaya is doing some of the coolest, most groundbreaking performance art in the known universe out of his tiny bar in the rather mainstream Minato ward of Tokyo. He is not currently known to the hip-art world.

2) I have been on an extended vacation, working on an art show among other things.

3) Mark Kagaya sang the theme from The Empire Strikes Back before serving my table our hot towels of the head of a remote controlled Anpanman.

4) I am back now and ready to resume the steady flow of all kinds of accidental Chinese hipsters to this blog.

5) In Kagaya bar I was able to “become a frog woman in real time”, thus bending my reality, and my boyfriend temporarily turned into a monkey.

6) A ninja attacked us after we left the bar.

Although this guy is not Chinese I felt it important to share his (incredibly fruitful) life’s work with you in hopes that you will some day have the opportunity to patronize his bar. Walk in a regular, white almost hipster and you might walk out a half-transformer incidental anti-hipster who likes to make musical instruments out of dried vegetables and circuit bent toothbrushes. I don’t know. The whole experience though, which included motorized cups that shook every time they were lifted from the table, rampant sexual innuendos, small doses of seriousness, lots of toys, kung fu service, and traditional home cooked food that my Japanese friends loved, just made me believe even more in the beauty and grace of doing your own style how you want to do it. Much like an accidentally hip old Chinese person in some big sunglasses.
